#188: You Like Me Too Much

Perhaps content that “Don’t Bother Me” shut up the journalists who kept asking him when he would start writing songs, George Harrison left it up to John and Paul to take care of the original material for the next two Beatles albums. When he gave it another shot for Help! he delivered two below-average songs so unimpressive that he left them out of his otherwise-comprehensive 1980 autobiography/songwriting memoir I Me Mine. “You Like Me Too Much” would have been filler even as an album cut from a lesser British Invasion band, but I can give it some kudos for George’s harmonies. Lyrically though, the song never quite determines whether it’s a sweet ode to a partner or a cocky declaration of, “You’re stuck with me forever.”
